Have you ever seen a field of sunflowers, where they are all growing int he same direction? In their early growth stages, Sunflowers exhibit Heliotropism, which is just a fancy word meaning that they turn to face the sun in order to grow nice and tall!

Although we tend to think of sunflowers as the standard, big, yellow ones that tend to be most popular, it turns out that those are only one variety out of over 70 different types! Sunflowers come in various colors, and sizes. We will be carrying another kind called Spray Sunflowers, which feature multiple flowers on a stem.

Sunflowers aren’t just pretty to look at- they also are amazing at absorbing toxins! After the Fukushima nuclear power plant in Japan was compromised after a tsunami, sunflowers were planted to help absorb the radiation from the soil.

Did you know that sunflowers are actually made up of thousands of individual flowers? Each little petal and brown seed is technically it’s own flower, and together up to 2,000 make up what we think of as a sunflower.
